About the Journal

Southeast Asian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences is the official research journal of allied health and medical studies at Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. (JMCFI) , located in Davao City, Philippines. The journal serves as a multidisciplinary platform for the dissemination of scientific knowledge and research findings across the full spectrum of healthcare professions and health sciences, with a particular focus on the unique health challenges, practices, and innovations in the Southeast Asian region.

Focus and Scope

The Southeast Asian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports, brief communications, and letters to the editor that address a wide range of topics across the health professions, including but not limited to:

  • Medicine – clinical research, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, and tropical diseases

  • Nursing – nursing practice, nursing education, community health nursing, and patient care innovations

  • Pharmacy – pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, and drug development

  • Medical Technology / Medical Laboratory Science – clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and molecular diagnostics

  • Radiologic Technology – diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, medical physics, and radiologic sciences

  • Public Health and Epidemiology – disease surveillance, health promotion, environmental health, and health policy

  • Health Professions Education – curriculum development, teaching methodologies, and simulation-based learning

  • Health Systems and Management – healthcare administration, universal health coverage, and quality improvement

The journal encourages submissions that reflect the socio-cultural and health environment of Southeast Asia, aligning with JMCFI's institutional commitment to producing competent, compassionate, and globally competitive health professionals.

Publication Frequency

The journal is published annually, releasing issues in June of each year.

Peer Review Process

The Southeast Asian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences employs a double-blind peer review process to ensure the highest standards of academic integrity and quality. All submitted manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening, followed by evaluation by at least two independent expert reviewers with relevant disciplinary expertise. The review process is guided by the principles of confidentiality, objectivity, and constructive feedback.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. All articles published in the journal are freely accessible online, without subscription or payment barriers, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) declaration.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

The journal does not charge article processing fees.

Journal History

The Southeast Asian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences was established in June 2026 as the official research publication of allied health and medical studies at Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc. The journal was created to provide a unified scholarly outlet for the institution's growing health programs—Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Technology, and Radiologic Technology—while also extending its reach to the broader Southeast Asian health sciences community.

As JMCFI continues to expand its health education offerings, the journal serves as a vital platform for faculty, researchers, and health practitioners to share evidence-based research that informs clinical practice, health policy, and interprofessional collaboration across the region.
